4/19 WoRd pLay! a Workshop with Greta Nelson
Celebrate National Poetry Month with our first installment of “WoRd pLay!”, a workshop led by writing teacher & integrative health coach, Greta Nelson!
In this workshop, Greta guides wordsmiths of all levels of experience in the powerfully personal, wickedly wonderful practice of crafting “found poetry”.
Found poems take existing texts and “repurpose” or refashion them. Through a poet’s purposeful tinkering, these language fragments kaleidoscope together to form fresh creative wholes. The literary equivalent of a collage or a mosaic, found poetry is often made from newspaper articles, street signs, graffiti, speeches, letters, or even other poems. Consequently, inspiration for found poetry is very literally all around us.
Join us as we explore this beautifully accessible and limitless artform in an energizing and generative shared space. Raw language materials (magazines, books, advertisements, packaging, etc.) and all collaging supplies will be provided, though please feel free to bring your own! Participating poets should bring a notebook and writing utensil, and any elixir or treat that inspires the muse!
